Characterizing Molecular Defects in Ovarian Cancer

Project Summary

Biochemical pathways that control cell growth and survival are commonly altered in cancer. Understanding the particular defects in each type of cancer could lead to the development of better and more specific anti-cancer therapeutics. One example of a faulty molecule in ovarian cancer is a protein known as Akt. This project aims to understand how Akt modulates another pathway in ovarian cancer cells called NF-kappaB and how they both affect the growth of the cells. Findings should provide a better understanding of the biology of the disease and new targets for treatments.
