2006 Mentored Investigator Grant Recipient — Tsukasa Baba

Project Summary

Dr. Baba’s research focuses on identifying new drugs that can be used to treat women with taxane and platinum resistant ovarian cancer. His approach is based on using a publically available database that shows the results of using 44,000 compounds to inhibit the growth 59 cancer cell lines. He will analyze the data collected on taxane and cisplatin in this database to find other drugs that might be useful in treating resistant ovarian cancer. These results are anticipated to provide a foundation for initiation of clinical trials of candidate drugs identified based on ovarian cancer-specific drug sensitivity profiles.

Bio

Dr. Tsukasa Baba is Junior Associate Professor of Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine, and specializes in gynecological oncology. His primarily clinical interests include minimum invasive surgery in gynecological oncology, such as fertility-sparing or extended robotic/laparoscopic radical surgeries, with scientific interests in translational research concerning chemo-refractory endometrial cancer.
